I really doubt that any new features will come to Fenix 6. There are also some significant hardware improvements in Fenix 7, for example a different and much more accurate GPS chipset - Airoha Mediatek chipset in Fenix 7 vs. Sony chipset in Fenix 6. GPS accuracy is one area where Fenix 6 received a lot of criticism.
The battery life is about 20% longer in the smartwatch mode and in activity tracking up to 40-50% longer (in GPS only mode as opposed to all satellites). Although Fenix 7X battery life is already awesome. The case is slightly thicker and a few grams heavier. The nylon strap is included in the box ($60 value) The flashlight is supposedly brighter.
Circling back, Garmin’s 7/Epix line are getting closer to Polar’s in-activity heart rate accuracy, but as you are looking at the 7x, I’d wonder about the weight/size. I noticed that was a big change when I went from a 5x to 6 — there was a big correlation between hr accuracy when running and size of watch.
